in the midst of my cranky mood cody reminded me of one of my favourite things: dna. it makes me happy to simply think of the perfection and simplicity that is contained in the double helix. i won't go into great great detail for those that bore easily but i will say that it is one of the most compelling reasons to believe in god, a creator, a bigger picture and an ultimate purpose for mankind. (will i get kicked out of the science community for saying that?)
here is the thing - two strands running anti-parallel to each that are perfectly coupled by opposites. they can only be completed by the complimentary base and hydrogen bonded together until it's time for them to be replicated. the duality of perfect simplicity and mind stretching complexity is so attractive it makes my heart flutter more than a little bit. i won't even start into how much i love the words okazaki fragments, dna polymerase, and rolling circle replication of bacteria.
it all reminds me that even in what seems to be outer chaos or disorganization there is a perfect order and chain of events that bring all things - from bacteria to man - to their completed state. i suppose one could even say that during replication things seem to be the most chaotic with the most potential to go awry. it is at those times that everything is really growing, evolving and most importantly doing what it is supposed to do.
by those standards i am right on track... perhaps an egotistical bitch but right on track.
i feel much better... all i need now is for the sun to break through the clouds... we all know how much i like the weather to change with my mood.
